Parenting Note #756: Refunds

parenting note #756

This is another question from the 8-year-old that sprung out of nowhere. It’s an amazingly perceptive question since she’s witnessed her mom and I return items to stores countless times over the years.

In the mind of an 8-year-old, if a person can return items to a store and get their money back – or at least a store credit- why couldn’t a person complain to a venue?

I explained that life doesn’t work that way, nine years passed from the wedding to our divorce, and the place is out of business now, so getting our money back would be impossible.

I also told her many other moments cost money that I’d love to get refunded.

Like every time I took her and her brother to an indoor playground or venue specifically made for kids, but adults have to pay an entrance fee to do nothing but stand around.

I’d love to get back the money spent on some of the awful kid’s movies we saw in theaters. I’m looking right at you, Norm of the North.

Imagine getting back all the money spent on toys the kids HAD TO HAVE that they played with once and never touched again.

Which rip-off moments am I missing? Let me know in the comments.

OTHER STUFF I DID ON INSTAGRAM THAT YOU PROBABLY MISSED

OTHER THINGS I DID WHEN I WASN’T WRITING NOTES

ON LAST WEEK’S EPISODE OF “WE RUN THIS”

We talked to super mom, Bethany Davis. She’s a mother of five, marathon runner, personal trainer, and an all-around positive person.

Bethany discussed her transition from doing gymnastics on horses (yes, that’s a sport) to helping others with their fitness goals, her marathon training and CrossFit routines, her husband’s on-and-off love of exercise, being a busy mom of five and running the most grueling marathon of her life.

ON LAST WEEK’S EPISODE OF “NOT ABOUT WRESTLING”

We talked to Evan Husney, creator of the amazing Vice series “Dark Side of the Ring” and debuted our new weekly show recapping the show.

OTHER STUFF I WROTE THAT WASN’T ON STICKY NOTES

Honestly, not much, so I’ll take this moment to plug my book – The New Dad Dictionary. Baby showers are back in full swing and Father’s Day is just around the corner. The book makes an awesome gift for either.
