Just The Notes

Parenting Note #753: Method Acting

parenting note #753

I hate the term influencer almost as much as I despise the word blog.

I’ve learned to live with the word blog (and blogger) over the years because the expression will likely never go away. Oddly enough, I’m fine with vlogger – a video blogger – because the combination of two words is a far easier descriptor than “person who talks in front of a camera instead of writing.”

I’m getting way off track here. I’m really here to talk about the term influencer.

I don’t want to be called an influencer. I think my aversion to the term stems from my impression that most influencers push any product if enough $$$ is involved. That’s not me.

I’ll try a product, but if I don’t like goods or would never find myself using the stuff, I won’t take money to promote the brand.

A perfect example is my recent video about Revive Superfoods.

The company sent a shipment to try; I genuinely like the product and set up a campaign with the brand. My followers can get 55% off their first box of Revive Superfoods by using the code MESSAGEWITHABOTTLE55 at checkout.

(Side note – followers is another term I hate, but I don’t want to turn this into an “old man yells at cloud” post)

When the Method brand emailed to gauge my interest in working on an Instagram marketing campaign, I jumped at the opportunity because I use the stuff all the time.

I came up with a photo concept, ran to the store to buy as many Method products as I could find, took time to set up the shot – see picture above – and submitted the image along with Instagram story ideas.

I wasn’t chosen for the campaign. No hard feelings. I still like and use Method, and the deadline forced me to write another note and put my face in front of the camera, two things I typically drag my feet on doing.

Even though this photo feels like a paid ad for Method, it’s not an ad. It’s just a photo of a grown man hugging bottles of cleaning spray before cleaning his house.

OTHER STUFF I DID ON INSTAGRAM THAT YOU PROBABLY MISSED

OTHER THINGS I DID WHEN I WASN’T WRITING NOTES

ON LAST WEEK’S EPISODE OF “WE RUN THIS”

We talked to Justin True. True did a marathon with a truck strapped to his back. He’s preparing to do something even more insane this summer.

ON LAST WEEK’S EPISODE OF “NOT ABOUT WRESTLING”

Former WWE and NXT creative assistant Rob Naylor joined Stephanie and me to discuss the ridiculousness of “Piledriver: The Wrestling Album II.”

OTHER STUFF I WROTE THAT WASN’T ON STICKY NOTES

I hate running in the rain, but I’m learning to deal with it.
