From what I can remember, I was a pretty good kid.
Sure, I did some dumb stuff, but nothing I look back on and go, “man, that was awful.”
Except for the time I kicked a hole in the dining room wall in 8th grade. My grades weren’t up to my parent’s expectations, and as punishment, my parents grounded me. I’d miss the school dance.
I got so mad…WHAM…put my barefoot through the wall. I don’t remember if it hurt because the second after my foot smashed through the drywall, my mind went, “oh..dear..Christ.”
My parents found the hole and asked what had happened. I told the cleaning lady probably did it. When they asked why the cleaning lady would put a foot-size hole in the wall, I responded, “maybe she can’t go to the dance either.”
I felt terrible for a few reasons – first, the hole. Second, blaming an innocent person. Third, the gap wasn’t an easy fix. I put my foot through the wallpaper too. You can’t just patch up wallpaper. My parents had to pay someone to remove the wallpaper, fix the hole, and repaint the living room.
My foot caused a couple of grand in damage.
My grades eventually improved. I didn’t go to the dance. This was probably for the best since I couldn’t put much pressure on my foot for a while.
