I got as far as doing an online search for shwarma places near my house. The kid eventually changed his mind and wanted burgers instead.

I spent most of last week in California. I stepped foot on a California beach for the first time in my life and watched the sunset. I stepped off the beach after about five minutes because it was windy and cold as shit.
The reasons for my visit aren’t crucial to the story. The fact that I went there alone is important. I made a promise to myself a while back to take more risks, especially when the feeling in my gut goes, “ehhh, you sure?”
The risk might not work out, but at least I tried and ignored all the voices in my head trying to talk me out of it.
I’m sure you know the feeling I’m referring to and probably get overwhelmed by the sensation every time you’re about to try something new. It’s that uneasy feeling in your body is just your head making every attempt to keep you “safe” even when there’s really no actual danger or risk involved. This uneasy feeling keeps people from truly being happy, taking risks, swinging for the fences, and stuck in a life of complacency.
The next time you want to do something and your stomach and head start off a sentence with “ehh..” tell both of them to shut the hell up and then make concrete plans to do that thing.
Not tomorrow. Not when the time is right. Right fucking now.
If you don’t, you could miss out on millions of moments in life.
Chase your shwarma.

Before we move on to other stuff, I could use your help. I’m working on a project involving sticky notes and need some feedback from people. It’s just a few questions and won’t take much of your time.
If you want to help, shoot me an email at messagewithabottle@gmail.com with the subject line I WANT TO HELP. I’ll explain over there.
Thx!
OTHER STUFF I DID ON INSTAGRAM
I had so much fun talking to Rachel at Whine & Cheez(Its) on her weekly IG Live – All Whined Up.
We talked about co-parenting, dating, and people who might be swingers.
STUFF I DID THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PARENTING
Due to travel, scheduling conflicts, and a future guest having a baby, I wasn’t able to do a new episode of “We Run This” last week so I reposted an earlier episode about weird marathon rules. It’s worth a second listen.
OTHER STUFF I WANT TO TELL YOU ABOUT
WHAT I’M READING: Calm The F*ck Down by Sarah Knight
I picked this book up to read on the plane. It’s hilarious and filled with practical advice about dealing with life’s issues – both real and imagined.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: Mel Robbins on “The School of Greatness” podcast
I’ve always enjoyed Mel’s work and have used her “5-second rule” countless times. In this episode, she gets incredibly personal about the voices in her head (the ones I discussed earlier) and how high-fiving yourself in the mirror every morning could lead to a breakthrough. Yes, a self high-five, but there’s more to it than just that. I highly recommend listening to that interview and checking out her new book.

That’s all I’ve got this week. Go do something that scares you and email me and tell me what you did.
Have a great week, and be kind to one another.
– Chris
